My Thoughts for Today {October 7, 2010}

Today's Devotion: Hold My Hand
Today's Passage: Deuteronomy 31:1-8

With so much going on in the world today with the economy, the negativity toward our president, congress, just toward one another you would think there is no hope. Heck, sometimes I feel this way when watching the news but then I have to remember two things: One, I have the choice of what to watch and second: I'm putting my focus and trust in the wrong thing.

It's okay to keep in touch with what's going on in the world but I've come to realize that we 24/7 news which means that sometimes we don't let things develop fully and we as people sometimes jump the gun and have to take things into our own hands. We sometimes hear one situation and think this is the "end all/be all" but that is so not true. What I'm trying to get back to is the fact that nothing and I do mean nothing surprises my God. With everything that is going on today I have to remember to keep my focus on Him and Him alone.

God has given me common sense on what to do, how to handle situations, how to deal with people that mean me no good but again I have to remember to stay the course. I have to remember the more I bring my issues to Him, the more I realize the world and people are going to always have obstacles but when I fill myself with His promises and put them into actions the results are going to same: me being victorious. Sometimes I may not believe that when first pushing ahead but then I think about how many times I've allowed the world to dictate to me my outcome knowing that the world is fickle and will always be fickle.

For me, beginning my day with His words in my heart, spending quality time with God, being obedient to His commandments and surrounding myself with things that bring me joy and wisdom has always been the best way to go in regards to dealing with this world. Yes, God will not only hold my hand but he has my back each and every time, even when it doesn't feel like it.

Reflection's on Today's Devotion

Today's Devotion: A Mutual Friend
Today's Passage: John 15:9-17

My wife sometime feels social networks like Facebook, Craig's List, Twitter are bad things but I say to her time and time again, "The social networks on the web are just like anything else, it's who hands it's in and how they are using them, that's the problem. Although a couple of years ago with the misuse of MySpace by a mother who pretended to make friends with a young girl and then tear her down resulted in the suicide of the young lady was a terrible thing again falls into the category of "the user" and not the site.

How did this tie in to my reflection for this devotion? Easy...connections

Many people feel that with today's technology with the World Wide Web (I know, I'm ol' school) people feel we are more in front of the computer than connecting with "real" people. Sometimes that can happen but what I have grown to learn is that by connecting with people from different places in the US and around the world via Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks I have now made connection with people that I would have never met and that is a very cool thing. Once I begin traveling I have connection from New York to California. These people can not only tell me and my wife where to go but also places to avoid.

True, you have to careful of who you meet on the web because there are scammers but for me what makes it so different is this, putting Christ Jesus first.

When you put Christ first in your life, study his Word, follow the Holy Spirit, He places people in your life with your same love of Him and love of life and the most important characteristic, people who loves themselves. When you connect with a person who loves themselves they treat you the way they wish to be treated. They are patient with you, they do not pass judgement. Is this person perfect? Of course not because we all have shortcomings but you look pass that because that is how friendships grow.

And look around now, many Christian organization are using these wonderful social networks because they are now realizing that you have to connect with young people a whole new way because this is where they are, on the web. We have to go where they are and when they see the older generation is trying to reach out to them and not writing them off and being negative of this new way of communication they will not only connect with their my generation but will connect with their peers showing them that people that are Followers of Christ are truly genuine people because trust me, the youth want to connect with people that are real, not perfect.

What Christ Jesus also tells you is who not to encounter because again Christ will never put His children in harms way as long as you obey the Holy Spirit and know Christ because one thing I have learned now that I'm older is that many times you lead not by your heart because feelings can sometime get you into trouble but I do know that when you turn your heart over to God's Son he gives you a heart of gold but wisdom for the streets so you will not fall into the pitfalls of life. You may pass through tough times because we live in a fallen world but Christ gives you the strength, the knowledge to get through tough times and tough situations.

When you connect with Christ Jesus with all your heart He connects you with people that are good to you and good for you.

Great Messages From Chip Ingram

Yesterday while driving to work I listened to Chip Ingram message, "Love, Sex and Lasting Relationships - Wake Up World! There's a Better Way to do Relationships! Part 2". There are men of God that can make you stop and pay attention to certain subjects and when it comes to relationships, love, sex Chip Ingram has a way to teach you, convict you but in the end makes you sit back and make you realize that yes, God's way is the BEST way. In today's world this teaching will make many people shake their head and say, "This is so out of date" or "Here we go...another Jesus Freak trying to tell me how to live my life and these so called "Christians" lives are just as messed up.

Reflections From Today's Devotion & Passage

Reflections from today's Our Daily Bread devotion
& Biblegateway.com passage
photo from Luis

I really like this devotion because it truly speaks the truth when it comes to Followers of Christ, we are "deep thinkers". It's funny how the secular world thinks that Christians are some "mindless zombies" that fall for anything where it's really the opposite. When you study God's word, pray to God, listen to God(yes, I said listen because sometimes we talk and talk and not take time to hear God's response, His guidance for our lives) listen to great teachings of God's word we realize what the world is truly made of and we can move with ease of mind.

MyLoveForMusic InspirationSounds podcasts

These are podcasts I recorded earlier this year and will begin posting them over here as well, enjoy...

MyLoveForMusic: InspirationSounds - January 2009

This podcast went through a couple of song line up and just me finally recording this was a task within itself. This month has not been the best for me so far but I'm keeping my head up and keeping my eyes on Christ Jesus. I'm learning first hand that they are some situations I have to step out on faith, other situations I have to have patience. I have to keep reminding myself that I have to do what I can and God will do what I can't.

While listening to the playback of the tracks I selected it makes me sit back and reflect forward because I keep focusing on my mistakes I will never move forward in life and what my Lord and Savior has in store for me. This podcast almost did not get recorded until I read this passage from Proverbs 3:27-28...

27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it

when it’s in your power to help them.

28 If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say,

“Come back tomorrow, and then I’ll help you.”

It reminds me to sow good in someone else life because people are hurting worse than yourself.

December 2008MLFM: InspirationSounds

Hello and Welcome back to another edition of MyLoveForMusic:Inspiration. These are my picks for the month of December and I have to admit these tracks mean so much to me because sometimes God has to remind me who's in charge and for me sometimes having back problems let's me know that I can work as many hours I want, try to achieve my degree if I don't have my health none of those things mean a thing and by me having my back give me trouble these past couple of weeks put that into perspective for me.

This month I truly have so much to be thankful for with having a job in this economy, having a roof over our heads, almost accomplishing something for almost a year and hoping to continue this (my podcast) for years to come. It was times where I wanted to throw in the towel and God put so many wonderful people around via web telling me to "hang in there" and I'm glad I did.

The month of November I introduced a new podcast segment which I will begin to bring you wonderful Gospel, Christian, and Smooth Jazz music because this is something I have wanted to do for a minute because for me I always wondered why can't great instrumental compositions be blended with some of the best Christian artists and I have come to realize that if this has come across my mind I'm sure it has crossed other people minds. Now I'm not trying to mix Gospel with "Club" music because to me I think that would be counter productive because I am not trying to live in both worlds. I know where God has brought me, where I was and if I'm obedient to Him where He will take me. For me when I hear many Gospel and Christian songs I sometimes pay attention to the gifted musicians and say to myself, "that would really be a nice instrumental track." God has gave wonderful gifts to these men and women and for them to bring music to the masses that have you not only relax but to reflect on God awesome blessing is a double, triple blessing in my book.

So, find a place where you can kick, relax, reflect on the goodness of the many blessing in your life.

Enjoy.

Reflections from Thursday's Devotional

Our Daily Bread Devotional: Serve Or Die
Biblical Passage: Mark 10:35-45 (New Living Translation)

You hear this all the time, "If God is a loving God, why does he allow suffering in the world?" Straightforward question and here is the straightforward answer: God has given HUMANS, yes, You and I, domain over the world. It's amazing how we forget things like this. We want to do want we want, live anyway we want to live but when trouble hits the world or our little part of world we want God to wipe the slate clean.

God has blessed us all with a very solid blueprint on how to handle things in the world...the Holy Bible. I have to be honest, whenever I have wholeheartedly obeyed God I can not say He has ever forsaken me. But I have to keep telling myself when I live God's way I am on his time table, not my own. I may get upset with him wondering why doesn't He move in my life when I want Him to but I am old enough now to know that many times I get myself in certain situations that has caused me grief. I was the one that went right when God told me and has taught me to go right. When you get real and honest with yourself it humbles you and you begin not to play the "blame game" so much which many Christians and non-Christians do now.

I'm I saying that all Christians have this "oh whoa is me" attitude? Of course not. But we have to get to a put that we as Followers of Christ can not disobey God and assume that we can treat Him as our own Genie in the bottle and wipe our mistakes away. He can do that but what would he have learned from our mistakes? There is the other scenario...there are things that popped up in our lives that we have no control over and it will bring us heartache and at the time it hurts like heck and we have every right to asked God why. Job asked God why, Many prophets in the Bible as God why. In the book of Psalms King David asked God why time and time again but what I have learned to ask God now is not "why" but "what can I learn from this situation." Now that I have learned that very important key it stops me from being a victim to becoming a conqueror.

We must come to the realization that God has put us in charge of the world. It is not God that fail people, we fail people but every day we have the power to correct this mistake when we wake up each morning.

Reflections for Thursday o4.o3.o8

Right Place>>>more
devotion from rbc ministries

Have you ever read a Biblical passage and every verse that you are acquired to read speaks to you? I mean ever verse is like it REALLy spoke to you? Reading the acquired reading for this morning (Proverbs 16:1 thru 9) did that for me. We are supposed to make plans, we are suppose to prepare for our future but sometimes things do not map out the way they that they should and we sometimes get bent out of shape...okay I get bent out of shape at times but in the end isn't it funny how they work themselves out many times. Now I not talking about just going through life and having a "what will be, will be" attitude, that's not good. I'm talking about sometimes how we may have planned something one day and got their a day early but you end up meeting someone you haven't seen in years and have a chance to catch up on old times. Or you may have left out of the house 5 minutes late thinking you are going to be miss out on the best opportunity of a lifetime only to find out if you may have left out on time you could have been in accident once you past a section of a road you normally travel.

For me today is a time to begin getting out of my own way. It's really cool how you can come across so many messages that tell you that it's time to take a different approach to situations. Last night before going to bed I finally had a chance to listen to brother in podcasting show (Clarence of "DoYouKnowClarence?") and he hit the nail on the head or as my queen says it, "You hit the nail on the head with the hammer."(I love it how she says the whole thing out like that, it's so cute). From what I took from Clarence's show is that we have to real with ourselves, we have to see ourselves for what we truly are and where we are at that moment so we can finally realize how our Heavenly Father sees us and for me when you do that you can begin focusing on how to improve yourself. I too have had those conversations with myself that I'm being interviewed by Tavis Smiley or Terry Gross, having my face on CNN chatting it up with Anderson Cooper or talking to Keith Olbermann but sometimes we live in that world and not take care of what we need to do in the present.

These 9 verses from Proverbs speaks volumes to my heart today. It tells me yes map out what you need to do for that day but don't get upset if it doesn't work out the way that you planned. We may say with our mouths and may be sincere when it comes to doing some things but God knows what in our heart what we are really seeking. The verses says to me, before my feet hit the floor thank God that he has given me another day to see to bring glory to him. Don't envy boastful people because in the end God knows what is best for them so keep living the way you need to live.

I have to really begin reading a chapter a day from Proverbs because just think if I truly read a chapter a day and followed out what the almighty says how far ahead I would be in this game called life? If just 9 verses from just one chapter woke me up spiritually like this just think what the rest of the book can do for me?

Reflections & a "little" Tech News

Designed By God>>>more
devotion from rbc ministries

When reading this devotion and the bible verses this truly spoke to my heart because sometimes I lose focus of my gift that God wants me to utilize. Sometimes I take my eyes off of what God wants me to do and I need to be guided by the "Shepard's staff" so to speak. I loved the part where the author writes,

"...As we observe the animals and people around us, we’re reminded that God made each of us unique for a purpose. One person’s natural tendency is to look up and see the “big picture,” while another looks down and focuses on details. Both are important. One is not better than the other."

That truly spoke to me because some followers of Christ Jesus are here to uplift people, some are here to teach, others are here to share the word of God. So many talents and yet we are supposed to use them as one. I love to learn new things but I know I will not become an expert at a certain vocation/task unless I truly have a passion for it and I am realizing that about myself more each day and that's okay with me. I realize that some things I pick up on quick and other things it will take time for me and by realizing this I am less critical of myself. God love me for me, no more...no less. Now this does not mean I just sit back and not try but to give it my all when it come to the gifts he has blessed me with because it is just not for me but for me to share with others and in doing so I learn along the way to make myself better.

Sometimes I am my own enemy and it is so cool that Christ Jesus reminds what is really important in my life, His love for me. If I keep my eyes on Him at all times, it does not matter what others think of me because by me living by God's principles whether if someone likes me, dislikes me, or hates me, God will in the end make them respect me because of how I carry myself.

reflection & tech nuggets for Thursday

Apology Hotline>>>more
devotion from rbc ministries

At first reading this devotion a subtle sense of pride creped in whispering in my ear, "this doesn't apply to you DarrenKeith...move to another devotion to reflect on" but it does apply to me if not right now at this moment but it has happened to me. It's amazing how Christ Jesus know what we need whether we want to hear it or not. I can honestly say the more I read the Sermon on the Mount how true his teachings are right on point.

It has been time where I have wronged my wife and no matter how I try and read God's word, pray to God the Holy Spirit tells me, "you know you can't be open with your Father...you have some unfinished business to take care of so go do it." And that usually means to get up, go in there and sincerely ask for my wife forgiveness. It's amazing when doing that how a HUGE weight is lifted off my shoulder. And even if it may not receive a "I forgive you" at that moment, knowing I went out of my way to get forgiveness, I have done the best that I can.

I am learning each day that to forgive and to be ask to be forgiven is also good for me health wise because it allows me to move with my life, with my work, to focus clearly on God and myself. I am learning that when you allow a unforgiven heart to settle in your life, to hold on to those feelings that in the end it truly only effects you and not the party that has wrong you. I remember reciting this part of the Lord's Prayer(Matthew 6:9–13)

"And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us"

I have to be honest, I never really focus on that passage until I became older and really paid attention to it. I'm asking my Heavenly Father to forgive ME of my mistakes, MY wrong doings as I forgive people who has wrong me and what is going on when asking God this...

"Don't hold anything against me Lord of anything I have done wrong and I will not hold anything against the person who did me wrong and if I can't forgive them then do not forgive me."

When we hold grudges against people or if we are not man or woman enough to acknowledge our wrong doing it's like God presses the "pause" button on our lives until we get that matter straighten out. So the next time you pray the Lord's Prayer keep that in mind. I know I will.

Thursday Reflections & Tech Gems

Doing Good>>>more
from RBC Ministries

I read this devotion, I read the passage and the life application notes in my Bible and I have to admit, not only staying positive but not speaking out is one of the hardest things to do especially when you have been accused of something false. You see it all the time played out in the public when one person has been accused of something and how one person goes either to the media and tries to clear their name. I am not going to lie that's a hard pill to swallow when you know you are innocent but that is what our Lord and Saviour tells us to do.

I don't think I have ever had to face something like the person in this devotion and I know I have never had to go through what Jesus Christ went through but I am realizing that it's best to remain quiet when someone tries to smear your reputation. I'm learning that so much energy gets waisted when trying to prove your point especially in this day and time. I have learned that no matter how you try and bury the truth it finds it way to the surface. Does this still means you do not suffer through that time? You will suffer because since we live in a fallen world sometimes we suffer for during the right thing.

When you strive to do it God's way it may cost you some friends along the way because your path may be different from the path you was once on and sometimes friends, family members may not like the path you are on but in Matthew 10 Jesus is clear in explaining the cost when following him and the road is not an easy road but to me it's worth the trials because in the end I know where I am going to end up when it's all said and done.

a powerful message from Pastor Greg Laurie

You have heard me menitioned Pastor Greg Laurie from time to time because what I truly enjoy about his messages is how he explains the bible and his humor. This message I heard on my iPod is no exception...A God of Second Chances (part II) is about how our Lord and Savior can forgives us no matter what mess we get into and how He loves you and I no matter what decsions we make.

Now, this is not to say we will do not have pay the consenquences for our actions but to know that God still loves you and I regardless is truly a blessing.

I hope you get a chance to listen to this today and share it with a family member, a non-believer, your children.

Devotion & Reflections for Thursday

Reborn Identity>>>more
devotion from rbc ministries

When first reading this devotion to be honest I had a hard time really getting into it, really understanding it because some devotions and bible reading fall on you like a ton of bricks, it speaks right to your heart, and then there are some passages you read and you go, "huh?" But God is so awesome as always. Then it hit me...we don't always read God's Word for just a "good feeling" all over, we read, study, meditate on God's word for peace and even as I write this I'm getting a deeper revelation.

To know Jesus Christ and to know what He came on earth for is to give of peace within. His sacrifice for us is for us not to wonder, "who am I?" and "why am I here?" I enjoy science, I always have coming up. I have so many interest coming up some I have forgotten about and something will trigger it and make me remember like space. As a kid, I wanted to become an astronaut (as must little boys growing up). Time travel I was fascinated by as a kid(H.G. Wells The Time Machine with Rod Taylor is still one of my favorite movies). I remember how me and my friend Walter use to pretend to have built a time machine or built a mini submarine like Captain Nemo to see different lands.

Maybe the reason why I also thought of those things was many times I felt alone, didn't know where I was going to end up when I die, what was my purpose for being on this earth(sad huh...this young in age and already thinking of these things...I was a deep thinker as a child) and even though I was saved as a child I did wonder about heaven...I read some of the Bible about how the streets would be paved with Gold and walls of pearls. But mainly I thought about why am I here on earth.

Fast forward to today, I getting to know Christ Jesus more and more and to know His love for me I'm learning more and more each day why I am here. Sure he has placed in me some desires but I am learning His desires for my life and I'm finding when I do this...turn everything over to Him how many doors are opening for me. Some roads are a little bumpy for the most part He is making a way for me. I know now that when I do reach my vocation desire I will not feel empty and feel like I have wasted my time because studying His word, listening to Christ Jesus, he has filled that void in my life where now once I begin college again and fulfill my dream I will not say to myself, "Is this all there is to life?"

It's funny now, I don't think about what goes on in space anymore, not saying I'm still not in awe of looking up at the heavens on a clear night seeing the beautiful stars in the sky, I just think about if there is other intelligence out there on other planets(although I still enjoy astronomy) anymore because knowing Christ now I know what matters must...trusting in Him and knowing when I die where I'm going to end up is good enough for me....

**although, I'm really curious about the garden of Eden, Noah's Ark, and King Solomon's Kingdom...like I said, I've always been a deep thinker.

Be Blessed,
Be Safe, &
Have a Wonderful Thursday.

This audio message from Dr. Charles Stanley today, "Shortcutting the Will of God" is an on time word because we as Followers of Jesus Christ have this problem...we want the Will of God but we think of Him as a bell hop from time to time. We tend to forget we are on His time frame, He is not on ours. This is not only a Word for my fellow brothers and sisters but for me as well. Many times when I post messages are devotions they are for me because I am not perfect, I will never come across as perfect.

W
e hear all the time, "God help those who help themselves"...this IS NOT in the Bible. As Dr. Charles Stanley explains in that way of thinking sometimes we get ahead of God's plans and path we end up making a mess of things. We do this many times because we don't like God's time frame, but remember God is the "author and finisher" of everything.

devotion & reflections for Thursday

Sometimes God has to put you and I in the "wilderness" in order to work on our lives. It's not fun being there, it's lonely at times but in the end we come out stronger, wiser, better equip to help others. How long we stay in out wilderness, that depends on individual. We ask God to come into our lives to clean up the mess we have made but when it comes time to get rid of things, people, locations that hinder us we want to hang on because we feel that we can not do without...but isn't that part of growing?

Many times we want the benefits but do not want to go through the process of becoming. It takes sacrifice, it takes time and yes we will lose some things that we think at the time is so important to us but God never takes anything away that He will not replace which is far better for you and I. It's easy for me to write this but I will admit, when it's time to go through at times it's very rough for me.

Right now I'm at a point where I want my life to become full, rich with His blessings, His wonders for me but I know I have to put some things to the side and it's hard for me but in order for me to receive I have to give. By this I mean I have to give of my time, my income, my obedience. I must surrender all because I will never bend God to my will, it just will not happen. I have to begin and continue(that's really the key isn't it...we start off strong then get side tracked) to wake up with His Word, ask for guidance, do my part(which is another key ingredient), be still when He tells me to still, move when He tells me to move...let Him be my 'Pilot'. One thing I am truly learning is that God does not come the same way because His ways are never our ways.

C
ase in point...last night at work, I arrived there late and I was hoping they did not trash the offices I normally clean. Each night I ask God how do I proceed because sometimes I get out of there later than I want to leave and I have to be honest I sometimes make things harder than they really are so this time I let Him give me wisdom and obeyed. Not only did I finish earlier than normal but I had time to rest and give Him thanks before heading home. Two lessons I learned last night
  1. Ask Him to lead and direct me in EVERYTHING I do
  2. Obey Him...period
I could not understand how I finished at the time that I did but then again as I mentioned earlier...His ways are not my ways. This may sound corny or weird to some people but it worked for me last night and I'm going to be obedient to Him tonight when I get there.

G
od always has our best interest at heart but by Him giving us free will we sometimes go against what He has for you and I and we have to let go and follow His lead. The end result is so wonderful and our testimonies are a inspiration to others.

Be
Blessed,
Be Safe, &
Have a
Wonderful Thursday.

Devotion & Reflections for Thursday

A Lifestyle of Waiting
on God>>>more
from In Touch Ministries

Developing "A Lifestyle of Waiting on God" really depends you and I. We can realize that His plans are better than anything we could ever come up with or we can keep manipulating our situations having a temporary satisfaction only to begin from start and in essence doing double work to achieve happiness once again. The above link shows four very important factors in developing a Christian lifestyle when it comes to the process of waiting on God to move in our lives. It's amazing how we constantly say how we want to know the will of God for our lives but if it doesn't happen in a week's time, we throw our hands up in the air in disappointment.

But we have to realize something, this was a process that we made a mess of our lives and it will take a process to get things back the way they should be in our lives...it's like gaining and losing weight....one day at a time. When we lose weight, it doesn't show on the outside at first, the action is happening inside and gradually we begin to see results. The same with waiting on God. Dr. Charles Stanley says something that I always remember

"While we are waiting....God is working "

The four areas in Dr. Stanley's devotion we need in order to have God work the fullest in our lives (Faith, Humility, Patience, & Courage) are principles that will make you not only stronger for yourself but for your spouse or spouse to be in the long run.
